Do you find it hard to follow through with your goals and aspirations because your mind keeps throwing out thoughts like, “I'm not ready yet” or “What if X happens?” or better yet, “What if they don't like me?”
I can definitely relate to this myself. My ego will always try to hold me back in one way or another, it's just how the ego works. It took me a long time to breakthrough those negative thoughts and feelings and find effective, mindful ways to release them so that I could persevere, achieve my goals and invite more peace and joy around me.
I know you don't want to be held back by your ego either. Being stuck in those thoughts can be overwhelming, frustrating and they can impact your everyday life. Who wants that, right? Moving yourself out from that mindset and changing your thoughts is easier said than done, I know, but I'm here to tell you that it's absolutely possible! It's a life long practice as we are constantly changing as we move through life. There will be challenges, shifts and events through life that will impact our thoughts, beliefs and values. It's important to always be aware of this and align your self awareness accordingly.
With that said, I'd like to share with you some great ways that you can start paying more attention to your self awareness so that you can find more ease and peace when you are faced with challenges in life. The more you practice these ideas, the more you will strengthen your mind, body & spirit and you will start to feel lighter and happier (and we ALL want that!)
#1 Recognize the negative thoughts/feelings
When you start to doubt yourself (or someone else) and your ego starts feeding you fear based beliefs, just be aware of it. What is happening in that moment that your mind is wandering off to the negative? What state of mind are you in and are there any physical reactions that associate with it? This kind of awareness plays a huge factor in changing your thought process because it is where you begin to see how often, and how impactful, our thoughts pave the way for what we do and how our lives play out.
#2 Question the thought
If you have a hard time releasing that thought or belief, question if it is really true. If you're telling yourself that you're not good enough to do X,Y or Z is that genuinely true? Or are you making excuses around the fear that comes to play in your head? When you start to believe what the ego throws out at you it can lead you to making some poor choices around your thoughts, goals and dreams. Always question why you are choosing to believe something that deep down inside you know is not your truth.
For example, have you ever made an assumption about something and you really started to believe it? You believe it so much that you start to physically react to it with feelings of adrenaline, grief or nervousness. When this starts to happen you can easily react and behave in ways that you might later regret. Then later on you find out that there was no real truth to what you were thinking in the first place... you just made it ALL up in your head and put yourself through the stress, grief and energy for nothing! Pretty crazy, right? We all do this from time to time and becoming aware of it is so important to our mental health not mention physical health.
#3 Choose a new thought
When you decide that your mind is playing games with you, you then have the control to turn things around. Remove that negative and un-serving thought and replace it with a new one. Replace it with your truth. Learning how to reframe your thoughts again is a practice and there are so many wonderful resources out there to help and guide you along this journey. I encourage you to do your homework and find them! Get inspired by those leaders, mentors and like-minded groups that are waiting to guide you.
